Take a quick tour behind the scenes at the Lycoming Advanced Technology Center in Pennsylvania, home of the 2014 Red Bull Air Race standardised race-tuned Lycoming Thunderbolt AEIO-540-EXP. With standardised engines and propellers now in place, the race pilots are set to begin the new season from a level playing field.

Each Thunderbolt engine has been expertly manufactured to exact specifications, with the testing and analysis of each engine verifying the performance of air flow, fuel flows, operating temperatures, horsepower and other operating parameters. All testing was performed to factory specifications, which ensures that the engines are operating reliably at peak and consistent performance.
